The Evolution of Microbiota Research: Past, Present & Future
Professor Hiroshi Ohno is a leading immunologist and microbiota researcher, currently Deputy Director at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences, where he leads the Laboratory for Intestinal Ecosystem. His work focuses on how intestinal epithelial cells, especially M cells, mediate communication between the gut microbiota and the host immune system. He is internationally recognized for advancing the field of mucosal immunology and microbiome–host interactions.
He serves as the President of the RIKEN-ISM Microbiota Meeting in Tokyo and will deliver the Opening Lecture at the 2025 edition, titled:
The Evolution of Microbiota Research: Past, Present & Future.
He also is in the Scientific Commitee of the International Society of Microbiota on Targeting Microbiota that will take place on November 5-6, 2025 in Valencia, Spain.
Professor Ohno has received several prestigious distinctions, including:
